CMA CGM is set to operate its Portugal East Coast (PGE) service independently from October 2026, according to Container News. This strategic shift is intended to enhance the service's capacity and ensure the continuity of regular shipping connections.
The service links Portugal with the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, facilitating trade routes across these European regions. The carrier indicated that this standalone operation would support its commitment to these vital corridors.
As part of this operational change, the 1,380 TEU containership Stellar will be integrated into the intra-North Europe service. This vessel will join its sister ship, Containerships Arctic, to bolster the fleet dedicated to the route.
The deployment of an additional vessel is expected to contribute to the increased capacity on the PGE service. This move by CMA CGM highlights its focus on optimizing its service offerings and strengthening its presence in the intra-North Europe trade lane.
