According to Splash 247, two merchant ships that sustained damage in distinct attacks within the Black Sea area were reported to have grounded on Turkey's coast on Sunday. These incidents highlight the ongoing risks to maritime operations in the region.
One of the vessels, the Hong Kong-flagged chemical/products tanker Golden Sapling, ran aground at Geyikkoşan in Samsun province. Splash 247 reported that the tanker had been drifting without a crew for several days prior to its grounding.
The 19,455 dwt tanker, as detailed by Splash 247, reportedly suffered damage from a drone attack approximately 90 nautical miles from the coast. This information was attributed to the Turkish agency DHA.
Splash 247 also noted that a second vessel, the Palau-flagged bulk carrier Lady Zehma, was found near Kefken. This ship had reportedly been damaged in a missile attack while navigating the Black Sea.
