According to Baird Maritime, Great Lakes Towing has ordered two more tugboats. These new vessels are part of a larger series, bringing the total number of tugs in this specific order to 12. This expansion indicates a continued investment in the company's operational capabilities.
The new harbour tugs are scheduled for delivery in late 2027 and early 2028, as reported by Baird Maritime. This timeline suggests a forward-looking strategy for fleet modernization and capacity enhancement over the next few years.
Each of the newly ordered tugs will be equipped with twin 1,000 horsepower engines. This engine configuration is designed to provide robust power for various harbour operations, ensuring efficient vessel assistance and manoeuvring.
Baird Maritime also stated that the tugs will feature a bollard pull of 30 tons. This capability is crucial for effective towing and pushing of large vessels within port environments, highlighting the operational strength of the new additions to the fleet.
