The Panama Canal has deferred a scheduled reduction in the maximum authorized draft for ships utilizing its Neopanamax Locks. This decision means that vessels will maintain their current operational parameters for the time being, as reported by Container News.
Consequently, ships will continue to operate under the existing draft limit of 14.63 meters, which is equivalent to 48 feet. This measurement refers to the Tropical Fresh Water (TFW) draft, a critical factor for vessel transit.
Container News noted that the Panama Canal Authority had previously communicated intentions to implement a reduction in this draft. However, that plan has now been put on hold, as confirmed by the recent announcement.
The adjustment to Neopanamax booking rules comes amid a water deficit, as previously reported by Container News. The postponement of the draft reduction allows for continued operations under the established limits.
