Osaka Gas recently carried out the first ship-to-ship (STS) liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation in Osaka Bay, according to Manifold Times. This significant event marks a new development for marine fuel services in the region.
The operation involved Osaka Gas supplying LNG bunker fuel to an LNG-fuelled pure car and truck carrier (PCTC). The vessel, operated by an overseas shipping company, was calling at the Port of Kobe.
Manifold Times reported that Osaka Gas acted through Integr8 Fuels, a marine fuel trading firm based in Singapore. This collaboration facilitated the successful execution of the bunkering process.
The STS bunkering method allows for the transfer of fuel directly from one vessel to another, which can enhance efficiency and flexibility for ships requiring LNG as marine fuel in the area.
This inaugural operation highlights the growing infrastructure for LNG bunkering services in key Japanese ports, supporting the maritime industry's transition towards cleaner fuels.
