Curtin Maritime has secured a contract valued at $31.5 million for dredging activities at the Port of Baltimore, according to Baird Maritime. This project is set to enhance the port's infrastructure and maintain crucial shipping access.
The scope of work involves the removal of approximately 2.25 million cubic yards of material. This material will be extracted from the federal navigation channels, which are vital for maritime trade and vessel movement.
Baird Maritime reported that the dredged material will be strategically allocated to two specific locations: Poplar Island and Cox Creek. This allocation suggests a plan for environmental or infrastructural use of the removed sediment.
The completion of this significant dredging project is anticipated by March 31, 2027, as stated by Baird Maritime. This timeline provides a clear schedule for the improvements to the Port of Baltimore's waterways.
The contract underscores ongoing investment in port maintenance and development, ensuring that key maritime routes remain accessible and efficient for commercial shipping and logistics operations in the region.
