Utility-scale battery storage capacity in the United States has shown considerable expansion over the last three years, as reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The annual average growth rate for this period stood at 70%.
By the close of 2025, the operational battery storage capacity within the U.S. power system had reached 43.6 gigawatts (GW). This figure highlights the rapid deployment of storage solutions across the country.
The momentum continued into the first half of 2026, with operators adding an additional 8.3 GW of battery storage capacity. This further increased the total capacity available in the U.S. grid.
Based on the U.S. Energy Information Administration's latest Preliminary Monthly Electric Generator Inventory, the nameplate battery storage capacity neared 52 GW by the end of the first six months of 2026.
