A 17,200-ton North Sea platform has been lifted from its steel jacket and loaded onto a heavy-lift vessel, according to Offshore Energy. This operation marks the beginning of the platform's final journey to shore.
The platform is destined for dismantling and recycling. This move comes more than 42 years after the platform first began producing oil in the North Sea, as reported by Offshore Energy.
The lifting operation was completed in a single maneuver. The heavy-lift vessel involved in this transport is owned by Allseas, an offshore contractor based in Switzerland.
The successful loading of the platform onto the vessel signifies a significant step in its decommissioning process. The platform's journey will conclude with its dismantling and recycling on shore.
