The Port of Rotterdam has officially joined The Global Methanol Alliance, previously known as The Methanol Institute. This move aligns with the port's preparations for a transition towards clean methanol, according to a statement issued by The Global Methanol Alliance on October 12.
The Port of Rotterdam is a significant hub for methanol, handling over 3 million tonnes annually. It serves as a major centre for methanol storage, distribution, and bunkering operations.
These services support both the port's own industrial cluster and various industrial centres located across Northern Europe. The port's involvement with the alliance underscores its strategic focus on methanol.
Matthijs van Doorn, Vice President Commercial at the Port of Rotterdam, indicated that the port aims to strengthen its position as a key location for methanol activities. This strategic direction supports the broader shift towards sustainable marine fuels.
