Norwegian shipbuilder Vard recently delivered the Windward Hamburg, a new hybrid commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV), to the German joint venture company Windward Offshore. This vessel marks the final delivery in a series of four hybrid CSOVs ordered by Windward Offshore, as reported by Baird Maritime.
The Windward Hamburg follows the delivery of its sister vessels. Baird Maritime stated that the Windward Athens, the first in the series, was handed over in late 2025, while the Windward Paris and Windward Munich were delivered earlier in the current year.
Baird Maritime noted that the Windward Hamburg, like its sister ships, is classified by DNV and operates under the Maltese flag. Vard Design developed the CSOV's design, which incorporates a new hull form engineered for optimal seakeeping capabilities and reduced fuel consumption.
The vessel measures 87.5 metres in length, with a moulded beam of 19.5 metres, a draught of 5.3 metres, and a depth of 7.3 metres. Its aft deck spans 320 square metres and is equipped with a height-adjustable, motion-compensated gangway featuring an elevator system, according to Baird Maritime.
Additionally, the aft deck includes 3D motion-compensated cranes and a height-adjustable boat landing system. Baird Maritime highlighted that the hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system incorporates four methanol-ready engines and a Vard battery pack.
The propulsion system drives two aft azimuthing thrusters, two forward azimuthing thrusters, and a forward tunnel thruster. This configuration is designed to provide enhanced manoeuvrability for the vessel, as detailed by Baird Maritime.
