Container spot freight rates for transpacific and Asia-Europe routes have shown divergent trends for the seventh consecutive week, The Loadstar reported. Transpacific rates have reached levels not observed since July 2022, indicating a significant upward movement in this sector.
The World Container Index (WCI) by Drewry indicated that the Shanghai-New York rate has now exceeded $10,000 per 40ft. This marks the first time this threshold has been breached since the latter period of the Covid pandemic, according to The Loadstar.
The Loadstar further stated that the Shanghai-New York rate increased by 7% this week. This rise contributed to the overall surge in transpacific spot rates, pushing them past the $10,000 mark.
In contrast to the transpacific route, container spot freight rates on the Asia-Europe route have continued their downward trajectory. This ongoing decline represents a contrasting market dynamic compared to the rising transpacific rates, The Loadstar reported.
