Alkagesta took part in the Argus Fertilizer Caspian, Black Sea and Eastern European Markets Conference 2026, held in Istanbul on 17 and 18 September. Organised by Argus Media, the event is one of the main annual meeting points for fertilizer producers, traders and trade service providers working across the region, and drew more than 450 delegates from over 250 companies in 45 countries, according to the organiser's figures reported by the company.
The company was represented by Vusal Muradov, who leads its fertilizer desk, together with fertilizer trader Tural Sabirzade and Mustafa Yigit Shen from the operations function. Over the two-day programme the team met counterparties spanning producers, logistics providers and market intelligence specialists, reflecting the mix of physical supply and pricing expertise that sits behind the firm's commodity trading activity.
Programme sessions centred on the outlook for global fertilizer trade flows and pricing, and on the continuing effect of supply chain disruption on delivery reliability. Delegates also examined the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and what it means for the competitiveness of imported fertilizers in European markets, a question that now shapes origin selection as much as price does.
Türkiye's expanding role as a regional fertilizer hub featured prominently, alongside Central Asian markets, where domestic demand and rising export availability are giving regional suppliers a larger part in serving European and global buyers. Route developments, terminal capacity and freight trends across the main trade corridors were discussed in the context of shipping and logistics execution, which increasingly determines whether a contracted cargo arrives on schedule.
The backdrop, the company said, is a fertilizer market working through one of its more complex periods in recent years. Disruption to key shipping corridors has exposed how thin the margins for error are in supply chains built for efficiency rather than resilience, and restoring physical flows after an interruption tends to be a gradual process rather than a single event — a point that keeps risk management close to the centre of trading decisions.
Alkagesta's fertilizer desk trades nitrogen, phosphate and specialty products, sourcing from established global origins and directing supply towards markets where agricultural fundamentals are strongest, with an emphasis on longer-term supply partnerships across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and emerging agricultural markets. The company also noted it recently gained access to the Argus Open Markets window for European biodiesel, HVO and used cooking oil, widening its participation in Argus price assessment processes across several commodity segments.
